Christians and Race

Race: A History Beyond Black and White

Tonight I saw an exchange between four black Christians and  four Caucasian/white Christians. It was encouraging insomuch as people who engage with each other end up seeing people, individuals, as those who are across from them, than stereotypes that can be easily pigeonholed so as to be ignored. Tonight I saw those willing to listen to those across a table; willing to listen to a story that's different from their own. Those who most needed to attend mostly didn't. I'm saddened by that. Those who did attend, each of them, engaged in the discussion, and were honest. Of that I'm proud. We, myself included, need to carry that forward. That's where the Kingdom can be brought into reality. God's ways are not our own. Of that we can be sure. God will have His kingdom brought forth. But we are called to walk (and work) with Him in that path.

We are each responsible for our actions in this process.

Blind to just about everything,,,,,except color.

I really feel sorry, empathetic is the term I suppose, for the treatment of Barak Obama by the hate-mongering main stream press and their handlers. Here is a man of integrity, one who knows what the real issues are, and cares about the welfare of American citizens and the failing social infrastructure. He ain't perfect of course, is anyone?, but I can honestly say he is far ahead of the usual pack of self-interest, self aggrandizing political wacks we usually have to select from. Personally, I would be proud of our country if we selected him as president. It would signify a major breakthrough in our historical prejudices that have kept a white-man in office since day #1. And it might also open a new approach, an enlightenment for people to see that a man is a man, and that yes Archie, he really does care about you too! At the same time, it has recently been dawning on me that maybe we don't deserve such an individual. We are so hung up on what we are spoon fed, dwelling endlessly on "issues" that are artificial and empty, but are blown up by the compliant media to represent reality. Maybe we are so brain damaged that we are now incapable of  seperating fact from fiction. We are mainstream-media junkies, desperate for our next fix. I hear the racist undertones from just about everybody, including supposed Christians not a step away from where I stand. No, we are all too immature, too intellectually primitve and full of fear and unjustified hatred, to consider what the man behind the black face is about. We will in all probability never know. We will be "more comfortable" with the usual white face telling us how things are, even though the man/woman behind the white face, is corrupt and as evil as the last several of such individuals have been. As a test to yourself, consider how Tiger Woods might be received by the masses. I would lay money he would "out perform " Obama, based strictly on his golfing success, than whatever he might have to say politically/socially. White America loves Tiger, why? Because of his socio-ploitico stand? We desperately need change, but I am afraid that, like lifers in prison, are fearfull of the "outside" when released, the artificial "security" of their cell-life has been internalized for so long that freedom actually looks threatening to them, it's an unknown, it's beyond their "normal experience". So it is with change, it's a chance, however unsettling it may seem, it opens unpredictable and varied opportunities to forward thinking people. Whom we currently lack. I leave it here, we do not deserve Barak Obama.
